29th Sea Games Kuala Lumpur 2017

After 16 long years, the SEA Games is back in Malaysia and the nation is in high spirits! The 29th SEA Games, previously known as SEAP (South East Asian Peninsular) Games, is branded as Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL 2017) and will be the sixth time Malaysia has played host to the prestigious sporting event after last hosting the event in 2001.

There will be 4,888 athletes from 11 countries competing against each other in 39 sports categories and 404 events from 19 to 30 August.

Sports fans will be hyped up to see the best ASEAN sports athletes contend against one another in pursuit of the elusive gold medal in the KL 2017 event. With the recent return of the legendary badminton coach Misbun Sidek to the arena, badminton fans will be hyped up to see what he could bring to the table for the badminton event. The “Pocket Rocketman”, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang too has been confirmed to be participating in the SEA Games for the keirin and sprint events while Malaysia’s own Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin will be competing in the polo event.

In August, the Torch Run will be completing the last few legs of its journey by going through Selangor from 31 July until 5 August, and Putrajaya from 6 to 12 August, later on ending in the host city, Kuala Lumpur.

In conjunction with the 29th SEA Games, a 15km and 5km Fun Run are organised on 19 August for members of the public who are interested in being a part of the SEA Games activities.

The sale of tickets to 19 sporting events, among them badminton, gymnastics, karate, taekwondo, netball and the aquatics, has started on 4 July 2017 while the rest will be free for spectators to watch.
