About this Package

  • Limbang is geographically peculiar as it is sandwiched between two parts of Brunei. This situation was created in 1890 when the White Rajahs of Sarawak forced the Sultan of Brunei to cede the Limbang district. Till today, the Sultanate continues a not-much-heard-of territorial claim over Limbang. Because of the undeveloped interior of the district, most transportation links between Limbang and the rest of Sarawak must go through Brunei.
  • Limbang is the most culturally diverse and distinct part of Sarawak. It is a melting pot of many cultures, including Malay, Kedayan, Chinese, Iban and various Orang Ulu ethnic groups such as Lun Bawang, Bisaya, Murut, Kelabit and Penan. It has one of the highest concentrations of Orang Ulu people in Sarawak.
  • While it has the pleasant atmosphere of an isolated Sarawak interior administrative centre, Limbang does not have that much to offer the travellers. However, you may find yourself here if travelling overland from Sabah to Sarawak or vice-versa. Limbang is also one start/end of the Head-hunter’s Trail to/from Mulu National Park. For those who choose for a leisure trip, there are two daily flights between Miri and Limbang using the new MASWings' ATR aircraft. There are no longer Twin Otter or Fokker flights operated between Miri and Limbang.

  • This two-storeyed wooden building was renovated in 1966. Like the other forts, it first served as a fort against native insurgents and later used for administrative purposes. The posts, shingles, walls, and upper floor of the building are made of belian timber while the ground floor is of concrete.
  • During Brooke's days, half of the ground floor was used as jail while the other half was for storage purposes. The upper floor housed the offices of the Resident and the District Officer and their staff. It was occupied later by Majlis Islam before being converted into a museum.
  • The original building was burnt down in 1989 and was rebuilt on the exact site maintaining the original design and architecture. This museum displays the history and culture of the people in this region such as bamboo band, salt making, beadwork, bark cloth, brassware, basketry and much more.
  • From here we proceed to Bukit Mas (Gold Hill) which is a 210m high jungle-clad limestone outcrop that dominates the town, atop the Limbang Museum. From the summit, you can have an excellent view of nearby Brunei and is accessible via a steep road leading off Jalan Pandaruan or by foot via a long staircase leading from the Lake Garden at the eastern end of the town.
