Light and Motion Putrajaya LAMPU

28 December 2017 - 01 January 2018

Forget Hollywood as the movie capital of the world! For four straight nights, the beautiful administrative centre of Malaysia, Putrajaya, will be turned into a “giant screen” – with the public audience as the “actors” and “actresses” of the show – as we celebrate another annual round of Festival Light and Motion Putrajaya (LAMPU) this year.

Now in its fifth year, the Festival is held in the heart of Putrajaya at the site of the beautiful Palace of Justice. The building will be the actual “big screen” upon which various thematic lights and images will be projected. “LAMPU” means “light” in Bahasa Malaysia, so expect to see lots of it during the Festival’s nightly shows.

Audiences can enjoy “the movies” in a casual al-fresco ambience from across the street, where pocket parks and wide lawn spaces simply invite picnics to be held with friends and family.

Among the main attractions is the Projection Mapping show that has attracted large crowds during past year’s Festivals. Expect the façade of Palace of Justice to be creatively “painted” in a multitude of colourful rays and images accompanied by sound and music, resembling a futuristic episode of a sci-fi movie. Digital Fireworks are also scheduled to be displayed on New Year’s eve.

All in all, some 23 programmes have been lined up throughout the four nights of the Festival to colour the usually sombre streets of Putrajaya. It’s free of charge in an open-air setting, and offers a great way to close the end of a long year, so bring friends and family for several nights of wholesome family fun.
