“KARNIVAL CANDAT SOTONG X PROGRAM MADANI RAKYAT (PMR) 2025 TERENGGANU”
Tourism Malaysia, in collaboration with the Terengganu State Government and supported by various agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and other strategic partners, proudly presents the Squid Jigging Carnival 2025. This event will be held in conjunction with the Madani Rakyat Program.
The carnival showcases the rich coastal heritage of Terengganu, highlighting traditional boat-making, local handicrafts, cultural performances, and culinary arts. It will also promote squid jigging as a unique tourism product in line with the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
Highlights include:
• Exhibitions and interactive booths by government agencies (Tourism Malaysia, KKM, APMM, Kraftangan, MATTA, MAH, etc.)
• Cultural performances and busking
• Traditional food and handicraft demonstrations
• Local games and community involvement activities
• Cooking contests featuring squid-based dishes and bubur asyura
• Family-friendly competitions such as coloring, dressing up in fisherman costumes, and coconut weaving
• Fam Trip with Gaya Travel Media involving 50+ participants from the media, influencers, and travel agencies nationwide
• Health screenings and blood donation drives
• Night religious recitals and musical performances
• Classic car and motorcycle exhibitions
The official launch ceremony will take place on Friday, 11 July 2025, featuring:
• VIP speeches
• A squid jigging gimmick presentation
• Kit presentation to media representatives
• Flag-off ceremony at the iconic Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge
This immersive event aims to celebrate Terengganu’s vibrant culture while positioning squid jigging as a distinctive tourism attraction for domestic and international audiences.
