The Regatta Lepa is a celebration that showcases the nomadic Bajau Laut community. This year, the event will take place during the month of August. Semporna holds significant importance as it serves as the main gateway to Sabah's renowned diving havens, including Mataking Island, Kapalai Island, Mabul Island, Pom Pom Island, Tun Sakaran Marine Park, and the famous Sipadan Island.
The highlight of the Regatta Lepa is the enchanting floating parade of 'lepa' boats, adorned in vibrant colors, accompanied by the rhythmic and captivating traditional Bajau dance known as Igal-Igal. In addition, the celebration features other exciting attractions, such as the Beauty Pageant 'Regatta Lepa Queen,' the thrilling Lepa Tug of War, the competitive Lepa boat race, and mesmerizing cultural performances that showcase the rich heritage of the Bajau community.
